Our beloved team found a way to continue collecting data from Google Play without the “Manage Store Presence” permission. This permission has driven some controversy throughout the years as Google never really shared why it was needed in the first place - it really doesn't make sense. Now we finally found a way around it.
If you already have a Google Play connection setup, feel free to remove the “Manage Store Presence” permission from your console. You're not obliged to change that by the way: your service will continue working as it always did with or without that permission.
If you're new around here, we updated our docs and interface accordingly so you don't have to wrestle with your security team about it.
Less permissions, same data. Happy days.
